On
the day after a twitch I usually experience what I call a ‘Twitching Hangover’,
where you are tired, grouchy and don’t get up until midday (unless it’s a
school day). So when Dad shook me awake
at 7 am in the morning, the day after the Little Bustard Twitch, I knew it had
to be something important. And it was. “Mya, Mya, get up! There’s a deer in the
garden!” It was safe to say that I got up pretty sharpishly.
In my
dressing gown, we watched a beautiful Roe Deer first in the field next to our
garden and then as it got closer. I didn't care if the neighbours saw me...
It wondered around to and fro eating apples from our neighbour’s
garden for an at least an hour, exciting both Dad and I. I managed to take loads of photos before it
was scared away by a car.
We
often see signs of deer in our garden, but it is rare to see one during the
day. Once we had one collapse in the
garden injured, after being mauled by a dog.
Unfortunately, it had to be put down by a local vet. I had a camera trap for Christmas and so I
am hoping that we will see deer on the film recordings.
What
an amazing start to the year in our garden!
