Wildlife Poetry reading

On Saturday 14th February 2015, we went to our local pub, The Ring O Bells in Compton Martin for a 10 am poetry recital.  Mum's  friend Ita O'Donnell sometimes helps me with poetry writing as it's her big thing (after playing the guitar and Irish folk singing). As we had to rush off to catch our flight to Bangladesh, we only had an hour.

I read three wildlife poems that I had chosen to read to the gathered group. Most of my poems are about wildlife and nature. I love writing poetry especially on these, my favourite topics, as it really makes you imagine and remember what you have seen, picturing the scene you are going to describe and putting it into verse.

The first poem I read was Winter Wonderland, a poem I wrote for the AFON winter competition 2014. I posted it on my blog in January 2015. Here is the video of my performance:

I then read my most recent poem, which I enjoy reading a lot.  This is the video of my recital:

The last poem I recited was called "I The Night" which I wrote when I was 8 or 9.  I wrote it for an RSPB poetry competition but ended up not entering it.  After all this time, it is still one of my favourite poems that I've written. Here's the video (I think Mum drops her phone near the end!):

This year I entered this poem into the Mid Somerset Festival and won a merit for it, even with them thinking I was 12 when I write it and not 8 years old.

It was great to read my poems, hear others read theirs and hear TS Elliot reading a few of his poems.  Very inspiring....so I'm sure I'll post more of my poetry over the year.
